Why you must have a Website?

14 Reasons to Get a Website Today!

Websites have become powerful marketing tools and essential in establishing business credibility in today’s market.

If you think your business is too small - read on and I’ll prove you wrong. In the hands of professionals, maintaining a web site can be very little work and reap great rewards. Dollar for dollar, a professional site can be the smartest advertising move anyone can make and namely small and home based business builders

1. People Will Look for You Online. (Name Branding)

Sooner or later, someone’s going to type your name into a search engine. What do you want them to find?

Nothing?

These are people who want to find you, and if you don’t have a website then you’re letting them down - they expect you to be online. For many people, you might as well not exist if you can’t be found with a search engine such as Google.

Not having a website is like not bothering to get listed in the phone book. Whether it’s getting new customers interested (prospecting) or keeping old ones up to date (customer care and follow-up), very few people are going to find you if you are not visible online.

Start by getting your name domain (johndoe.com)  from our Partners at yorgodom.com .

2. Websites Cost Next to Nothing.

A while ago, it cost a lot to run a website - but those days are long gone. What other media costs less than $3 per month and delivers trackable responses 24 hours a day, all year long?

Really, it’s never been cheaper to have a website than it is today. Compare it to a black and white ad in your local paper that runs once a week starting at $60. The return on investment for owning a website is phenomenal.

3. Websites vs. Printed Advertising.

Whatever you’re advertising - your services, your products, or just yourself - a website is a great way to do it.

Every other kind of advertising going costs a premium, especially if you want to target a specific kind of people, and there’s no guarantee that they’re paying attention. (Google Ads for example)

Websites are like brochures that are free to reproduce, interactive, and quickly distributed to people who are already looking for them. No advertising medium even comes close to the ease-of-use and effectiveness of a website. Dollar for dollar, a website wins hands down.

4. A Website is a Worldwide Presence.

On the web, it doesn’t matter whether someone is next-door to you or on the other side of the world - they can see your website just the same as anyone else can, at no extra cost to you or to them.

Phone and postage both cost enormous amounts long-distance, but a website lets you send information anywhere without any extra effort or expense. You can make friends and contacts in places you’ve never been and will never go - suddenly, working globally is no more effort than working locally.

5. Your Website Can Make You Money.

There’s a lot of money on the web, and it’s not hard to get some.

If you have something to sell, you can sell it worldwide, thanks to credit cards, online payment gateways and services such as PayPal. All you need is your information, products and contact info out there, and the sales are a click away.

An important element is to incorporate your website into all of your marketing materials starting with business cards and letterhead, then watch the hits come in.

6. Your Website Will Save You Time.

Giving out information takes time, whether it’s on the phone, or in brochures, or even if it’s just emailing someone.

Websites are designed to save you time. All of your potential clients can read your entire story online and access as much or as little information as you want them to have.

Customers can see your whole product catalogue without ever needing to talk to you or visit you. This is the power of the web - a good website runs itself, and keeps being useful to people for much longer than you’d expect.

7. Your Website will save you Money.

Your website allows you to reach people world-wide. Marketing cost are skyrocketing and you need to budget carefully for your marketing efforts. Some of the world’s largest fortunes have been built on selling online advertising (Google for example). The cost has in creased 10 to 20-fold during the last 5 years and you may want to look for alternatives to expensive Pay Per Click Ads.

The best alternative is your website! You may want to spend some money to buy an optimized site script, however that’s nothing in comparison to your expenses with PPC Ads.

How many visitors to your site do you need to reach your Financial Goals? A well published website with high visibility on search engines and social bookmarking networks will save you thousands of Dollars … every year. Just check out the cost for every visitor you fetch from Google by using GoogleAds.

8. Your Marketing Cost.

When McDonalds open a fast-food place in a new city, they strive to get to the busiest spot in town. The busiest spot is where there are most people, where there is most traffic and where they will not have to spend a lot of advertising Dollars to drag people to their place and to stuff a burger into their face.

The downside is: the rent is often very expensive, however marketing budgets to reach out for the same number of people and to convert prospects to customers are way more expensive.

Like in Real Estate, the 3 main criteria for McDonalds are: Position, Position, Position!

With the increasing  advertising prices online, the same principle applies for our websites. It may cost us something to get to the top of Google, but we will no longer spend 50 cents OR MORE per click on our advertising.

9. The Power of Publishing.

As a website owner you are a Publisher! And if your publication reaches out for lots of readers, you become an interesting Partner for Advertisers. Your website increases its value as its reach-rank increases. Now you can play Google yourself and sell YOUR advertising space.

Publishing a highly visible website builds authority, value, and income, whether you want it of not! The Publishing Power underlines your authority and your authority may lead to corner a market or a niche, just because you have the advantage of low cost advertising, since your site generates traffic organically due to its high listings on Search Engines such as Google.

10. The Technology.

Few people build their websites from scratch by themselves when it comes to money making websites. It has become too difficult and then, it’s not your job to build websites, it’s your job to use websites to make money with whatever your expertise or authority lets you make money with.

The website is a tool, a means of transport for your content as your car is your means of transport to go to your office, do your shopping or join a fun place.

Your website transports your message, your product or service offers, your image to the global market where interested people can see it. It’s also your sign; like the good old copperplate on your Office Building, your light sign on Times Square or your ad on TV.

Have you built your car by yourself? If no, why not? ….aaaaah!

The same applies to your website: the real thing requires professional intervention. Therefore you may be well advised to buy a script or template to start with. The main purpose of the professional intervention is to

  1. produce a website which can be read and understood by search spiders, and
  2. produce a website which is pleasant to look at by your visitors and which represents your image.

The price of a professionally designed website will vary in function of

  • the efficiency of the technology used
  • the complexity of the web design (usually measured by the man-hours spent to elaborate it.
11. The Cost of your professional Website.

Standard websites delivered by professionals have a starting price of some $500. More elaborate webdesigns (skins) can reach $5000 and more if it’s a great design job. If the design is original and you have the exclusivity to use it, you will most likely end up anywhere between $2500 to $10 000.

As a fist rule, you can count on $50 per hour for a web designer, while a developer will cost you $85 to $100 per hour. The developer takes care of the technology, while the designer creates the skin.

Depending on what your requirements are, your site will need more or less hours from one and/or the other professional and the bill will increase accordingly.

Compare: what does it cost you to bring your ad infront of 500 000 readers of the New York Times?

Or what is the cost for hanging up your sparkling sign on Times Square?

What does it cost to have your banner on Yahoo? … and for how many views or clicks?

You see, the cost is function of visibility, of how many potentially interested people can see your content. If your site is in the desert, say Google rank 1 009 878 … noone will ever see your site under that keyword and you are basically wasting your time and money.

The only alternative open to you is to pay for targeted traffic by buying for example GoogleAds.

The investment into technology serves to reduce the advertising cost and to build sufficient Publishing Power to be able to not only sell your products but also to be able to sell advertising space on your site. The difference is obvious: in one case you build your Business and in the other you build Google’s business.

Obviously, the GoogleAds will help you, however the cost is important and will weaken your margin. In a liberal market competition is about margins and the competitor who can remain profitable selling at the lowest price is the strongest.

The marketing cost is a determinating factor for your sales price and your survival in a market place.

 12. The running cost of your professional Website.

As mentionned above, hosting costs have become cheap and you can get shared hosting with unlimited features for less than $3 per month from ChiHosters or its world-wide partners.

If however your site reaches a certain size and gets into high traffic levels, you would consider a dedicated hosting solution; cost starts at $100 per month and you have the advantage of not having to share the use of the servers processor, IP addresses, Hard Drives, Bandwidth, streaming capabilities and so on.

In most cases, shared hosting will do at the beginning and until you make some good money from your Website. YORGOO was hosted in a shared environment until it passed 10 000 members.

If you need someone to handle your webmastering tasks, then your cost can skyrocket. It is therefore one of the important issues when you order your professionally designed site that it must be easy to maintain and to use.

A good site for your small business does not cause any significant additional cost.

13. How to pay for your professional Website?

While the goal is that your website will pay for itself as quickly as possible, there is a basic investment to be made in form of up-front cash. The simple beginners’ solution consists in getting a domain and a hosting account and then to start with a ready to use template to get familliar with the environment.

But there is more to it. In many countries and namely in the United States of America, there is extensive legislation concerning small business and home based business. The benefits of running a small or home based business are enormous, namely when it comes to tax benefits.

Many people are virtually running a home based or small business, however they have not declared it as such - with the scandalous result that they are working, building a business and paying for the fact that they work… (try to figure that one out).

On the other hand, there are better informed people, who set up a home based business according to the prevailing legal framework and … life changes all of a sudden!

The fact to publish your own professional website is already a good indication and sign for the existence of a home based business and imagine… the cost for that site is entirely tax deductible.

14. The only Guaranteed Financial Success.

Uncle Sam is paying for your professional Website, for your hosting, your internet connection, your software, your computer, your Windows, printer, paper, CDs, external hard drives, your faster graphics card, an increase in RAM and all the other cost related to your business.

But there is more: the cost of the space you use for your home business is tax deductible (and if you start in your garage… then it’s the rent for the garage… :-). Maybe Bill Gates and all the other guys who started in the garage thought more about the tax benefit than about the explosive success of their businesses?

The fuel you use to meet clients… and as they are all friends…. just imagine.

To start your online venture, you need two things as we can see:

Key-word related Traffic Criteria

How much traffic do you need to earn 100$ from Google AdSense?

To bring this question down to something measurable, we need to start with some assumptions:

  1. Suppose you get for every click on a Google Ad on your site 10 cents
  2. Suppose that 5% of your visitors click on a Google Ad
  3. Suppose you are on Google's top 10 on the concerned keyword search returns.
  4. Suppose 50% of the reported searches concern Google, the rest Yahoo and MSN.

Difficulties:

  1. Google Ads Clicks can return 2 cents or even a few dollars. The 10 cent assumption is therefore just for the purpose of calculation and before optimization as discussed in Yam, The Affiliate Mastery Book.

  2. Google considers a 5% conversion rate as good. Most people would be below, however optimization as discussed in YAM allows expectations of above 5%.

  3. The primary goal must be to reach Google's top 10 on the selected key-words as about 80% of the serches concern page 1 of the search results and the other 20% go on page 2 and others. If you are on page two, divide your expectations by 4 or 5.

Let's calculate now:

100$ correspond to 1000 clicks at 10 cents per click.

If 1000 clicks represent 5% of my page-views (or visitors) then 100% equals 20 times more or 20,000 visitors per month or roughly 670 per day.

If we use the Keyword Analyzer from YORGOO we see the following results on a keyword search for mp3:

 searches.jpg

The keyword analyzer is reflecting searches on Google, Yahoo and MSN. We assume that 50% of the traffic reflected concerns Google.

If we go straight for the key-word mp3, we notice: there are 20 000 searches per day.

50% is for Google, that's 10'000 per day.

If we are on the top 10 on Google under the key-word mp3, we share this traffic with 9 other sites on the left side and lets suppose 5 Google Advertisers. There are thus 15 links sharing 10,000 visitors.

10,000 : 15 = 670 for each link on average!

Result: I reach my bench-mark and should expect under the given assumptions to earn $100 from Google AdSense in a months time.

This purely hypothetical example shows not only the importance of traffic, but also the importance of optimization. If Google pays for every click 3 $ (yes, that exists) then you only need 33 clicks to reach your $100 and you need obviously a lot less traffic, something like 50 visitors per day will do.

I hope this will give an idea about the dimensions we have to think in when we select the niches we want to explore.

The good news is however: Google pays very little for our effort; there are much better ways to get rewarded for our work, using monetization features as discussed in Affiliate Mastery. or a mix of different monetization strategies.
